New Temples Announced

Miracles happening here in Fontana!

From President Stacey –

I wanted to share a sweet story that happened to me this General Conference weekend.  I am on a family chat with my wife’s family.  Her sister, Jessica, and husband, Reid, were able to go to the Sunday afternoon session of conference when President Nelson announced 17 new temples to be built around the globe.  Reid posted this story in our family chat.

We just left the last session of conference. We had a sweet Hispanic couple sitting in front us and when a temple was announced in San Luis Potosi in Mexico, this sweet couple silently cheered, held hands, kissed, and wept. It was SO touching both Jessica and I started to cry as President Nelson stated just how much the Lord loves YOU. In a moment I felt this couple with a lifetime of faithfulness and longing for a temple in this particular region of Mexico. After the session I leaned forward to congratulate them and she explained that San Luis Potosi is her home city and about all her family and friends who are still there.

Reid told me that they asked the couple to take a picture with them and then he sent the photo in the family chat.  The following was the photo that they sent!

Turns out, it was President and Sister Martinez that they had met!  What a tender mercy from the Lord!  What a neat experience for the Martinez family, to be able to be there for this great announcement.  The Martinez family had just been in San Luis Potosi, Mexico a few week prior!  The Lord loves his children.  Miracles still happen!

The following was a news story take from the Church news that featured President and Sister Martinez. Find the original story here!

San Luis Potosí, México

San Luis Potosí is the capital and the most populous city of the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí in central Mexico. It is one of the area’s main industrial centers. More than 1 million people reside in the area, making it one of the largest metropolitan centers in Mexico. This will be the 18th temple in the country. The other 17 temples in Mexico are the Ciudad Juárez Mexico TempleColonia Juárez Chihuahua Mexico TempleCuliacán Mexico TempleGuadalajara Mexico TempleHermosillo Sonora Mexico TempleMérida Mexico TempleMexico City Mexico TempleMonterrey Mexico TempleOaxaca Mexico TemplePuebla Mexico TempleQuerétaro Mexico TempleTampico Mexico TempleTijuana Mexico TempleTorreón Mexico TempleTuxtla Gutiérrez Mexico TempleVeracruz Mexico Temple and Villahermosa Mexico Temple.

Mary Martinez had to physically contain her excitement in the Conference Center when she heard a temple announced for her hometown in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. She and her husband, Angel Martinez, met there 33 years ago at school. The Martinezes, who have lived in California for 31 years, were in San Luis Potosí on March 20 with their three children, their spouses and their grandchildren.

“It’s very special now to hear that there’s going to be a temple there after we went there,” said Angel Martinez, who is from a neighboring Mexico state. Looking toward retirement, they were considering buying a home in Mexico, and the temple announcement has influenced their decision of where.

“It’s going to be such a blessing,” said Mary Martinez, who still has family there, after the Sunday afternoon session. “It will be such a blessing for the community.”

They were looking forward to when the Queretaro Mexico Temple will be built, which has a location and site rendering, to bring their friends and family to the open house.

“So now, San Luis is even closer for us,” Angel Martinez said.
